Ladies, here’s a treat for you that combines men, rescue dogs, and organizing all in one clever gift. Introducing the Dad Bods and Dogs 2019 calendar.
Texas-based photographer Rickie Beason devotes her business to photographing rescue dogs who are available for adoption. She believes in showcasing a dog’s personality to help find them a suitable home. Rickie decided to team up with several companies to create a calendar highlighting some of her rescue dogs. Rescue Row, The Love Pit, and Astasia’s Angels Animal Rescue all contributed to the project.
At first, Rickie did a calendar called “Heartthrobs and Hound Dogs,” but then switched to a more funny approach. The photographer explains that “dad bods” are more relatable and better showcase the dogs, which is the goal. Each dog featured in the calendar is available for adoption. Rickie wanted to show that even though the dogs may have had a rough start in life, they are past that. They are happy, adorable, and ready to have a family.
Rickie said the goal is to show people what life with a rescue dog could be like for them. She photographed the dogs having fun with their regular “dad.” Rickie also hopes the calendars are popular so they can raise money for the shelters. The shelters split all proceeds to help with looking after their dogs.
A few of the dogs featured in the calendar have now been adopted. But don’t worry, there are several for the perfect home. Rickie doesn’t like the typical photos of sad-looking dogs behind shelter bars. Beason says she wants to photograph these dogs in a more positive light. Her portraits and her calendar show what comes after a rescue: wagging tails and goofy smiles.
Rickie hopes at the very least; this calendar puts a smile on your face. It sure did for me.
