In today’s world, people usually mind their own business and think of their own safety over others’ well-being. But somehow, there are still some good Samaritans out there who will get in other people’s business all for the sake of doing what is right. Mike Thomas is one of those few good people.
Mike is a bus driver for TriMet, a transportation company in Portland, Oregon. During his route through Capitol Highway, he saw something peculiar and decided to take action. Along the highway, he saw a man and a yellow Labrador walking against the flow of traffic.
It wasn’t safe for both of them to be walking on the road, so just like the good Samaritan that he is, Mike opened the bus doors and told the man to get on board. Oddly, the man climbed aboard the bus but left the dog behind. Mike then told him to bring the dog with him, as it was not safe.
At this point, Mike’s senses are telling him that something’s not right. Why would this man leave this dog behind just like that? Also, when the man called the dog, he didn’t use the dog’s name. He just said, “come here.” Then what confirmed Mike’s suspicion was what he overheard inside the bus.
The strange man was talking to one of the passengers and Mike heard him offer the dog to her. At this point, Mike knew that the pup was stolen, and as a dog parent himself, he wasn’t going to allow this to happen, not on his watch. He did what he wants others to do for his dog, and that is to rescue the pup.
When the man was about to get off, Mike told him that the dog would be staying with him on the bus, and he will return the pup to his family. The strange man did not protest and stepped off the bus. After a few days, the dog, whose name is Cooper, was reunited with his family. See the emotional reunion in the video below.
