Meet Enzo. This golden retriever looks different that other golden retrievers…and he was born this way. The difference is due to a genetic mutation in which the normal golden color is not present…but only on the left side of his face.
According to his owner, Ella Castro, all golden retrievers are born with a black base coat and a gene modifies the black to make them golden. For some reason, the gene was partially absent on the left side of his face during early development.
It is great that this does not affect his health in any way. According to his family, he is a normal, fun loving, active dog.
Another interesting fact about Enzo is that he is larger than normal for his breed.
