Fishing is among the most relaxing activities that one could ever take part in. You get to enjoy a nice view, be alone with your thoughts, and fight off a shark every once in a while. Yes, you’ve read that right. But don’t worry, this scenario rarely occurs.
Unfortunately for James White, this wild and unlikely incident came true. He was fishing off Bodega Bay somewhere in Sonoma County, California. He brought his dog, Darby, with him, but he left the pooch in his car not too far away, with the airconditioning on.
Later that day, James felt an unusual tug on his fishing line. It was quite strong! He thought that he’d hit the jackpot and caught a big one. It took him 10 minutes just to reel in this stubborn fish, and when he pulled it into shallow water, he was shocked at what he saw.
It was a six-foot sevengill shark! James got a hold of the aquatic beast to remove the hook, but as he was doing that, it shook its body rapidly, and James had to let go. Once the shark hit the floor, it bit his ankle and unfortunately hit an artery. James cried for help, but the other fishermen were too far away, and they took a while to get to him.
But his pooch Darby also heard him, and he was just nearby. The one-year-old pittie managed to open the car door and ran towards his beloved human. Darby bit on the shark’s head, but this made the shark bite even harder. James told Darby to stop, and the pooch obeyed.
Then the doggo decided to bite the tail instead, and this time, he was able to pull the shark away from his human. James was then rushed to the hospital to receive treatment. Luckily, James was saved from bleeding to death because of Darby’s quick actions. We hope that Darby had a nice juicy steak as a reward for his heroism.
